Vishakha, Executive Assistant at Australian space agency

Stability and a chance to make her mark

Vishakha had been too long on the contract roundabout, working in short-term roles just long enough to build relationships and feel comfortable, only to begin all over again somewhere new.

After executive assistant contracts at the Australian Electoral Commission and the federal Department of Education and Health, Vishakha wanted a position where she could show her potential and start to put down more permanent roots.

She reached out to Rainy Day Recruitment for help to find a suitable position.

Exhausted by contract work

Vishakha found job seeking stressful and time consuming.

“I’d been in so many contracts; I just wanted to just be in a stable role for a while. It takes a lot of effort to create relationships in a role, and then in six months, it's already time to move on.”

She told Rainy Day that she was seeking a role with at least 12 months’ longevity, to learn and absorb as much as possible. Giving one hundred percent was important to Vishakha and she took the rapport and teamwork side of the role very seriously.

Understanding her needs and career goals

Rainy Day supported Vishakha to find a suitable role and career-building match. They earned her trust and respect through their regular communication and reassurance.

“I've worked with several recruitment agencies before and they were the complete opposite; they kept me in the dark. In contrast, Rainy Day would update me before I even had a chance to ask. I felt very ‘seen’ and understood, which is so important.”

Rainy Day knew that Vishakha wanted the opportunity to make her mark and saw the Space Agency role as eminently suitable.

“It was a new role in a new agency, so I could build it from the ground up. It had a lot of scope, and if they liked me, I would have the opportunity to stay in the role longer than a few months. Rainy Day knew what I wanted and found what was right for me at this time in my life.”

Flourishing in a fulfilling role

After winning the executive support role working direct to a general manager, Vishakha is already showing great promise as a longer-term hire. Four months in, everything is going well.

“I am acting as the Deputy Secretary of the agency and it’s going really well. There's a lot to learn from the industry's president and I have a great relationship with my boss. That’s crucial in an EA role – good rapport and coordination. There's a lot of trust placed on my shoulders, which motivates me to do my best and try new things.”

She has appreciated Rainy Day’s support throughout the entire recruitment and employment process.

“They made it all so easy. Even once I had the role, they checked on me. ‘Are you comfortable? Are you okay? Is everything okay with you? How are you finding it?’ Rainy Day’s care and attention has made it easy to adjust and to know that they have my back.”
